After promising to continue local control over newly acquired hospitals, Sutter disbanded the local boards of directors at five hospitals in Sacramento, Yolo and Placer counties and replaced them with a single corporate board in order to consolidate corporate control over decision making. Dr. William Kirby, Chief of the Medical Staff at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, told the Sacramento Business Journal: "We have a great medical community in Auburn and suddenly no local input that can affect the way care is provided here. I don't think the people of Auburn had any understanding when they were sold to Sutter that we'd lose so much."
